One thing I do when developing an application is to keep development and production data separate. Production data and its schema should never be modified, only dev data should be modified. (I've started to develop in an environment where I keep a copy of the production database in the development environment, so I don't have to do anything special.) Another thing I do is to keep schema and dev data separate. This approach can be useful if you have a database that is under active development, but is out of production. In this scenario, the code of the application may be "out of date" and need to be modified. If you don't put the data in a separate location,
