PROGRAMS

The programmatic area of the Comuá Network includes its ADVOCACY PROGRAM, conceived as a groundwork effort.

Its goal is to promote collective, networked action in view of the collaborative construction of strategies and narratives, the production and sharing of contents capable of leveraging and positioning the agenda of community philanthropy and social justice within the Brazilian and international philanthropy ecosystems, expanding grantmaking practices and the culture of giving, to the benefit of civil society organizations, groups, collectives, movements, and leaderships, committed to these playing fields.

Our purpose is to act collectively and, to that end, it is important to coordinate the construction not only of actions to enable the implementation of our strategies, but also the concepts and the conceptual foundation to sustain the systemic change we pursue.

VOICES, local communities, political minorities, and the ongoing fight to champion rights are at the core of the program.

The notion of organizing means to fund collective causes from the bottom-up is not new, but now it is crucial that the philanthropic ecosystem acknowledge and reflect on the direction of its agendas.

We want to impact the culture of giving and the philanthropic ecosystem, to strengthen civil society and the championing of rights.

The narratives are the building blocks of advocacy, made up of voices, which, from the bottom-up, tell stories about the changes and transformations supported by social justice and community philanthropy.

The process is cyclical and has the power to challenge the traditional philanthropic systems, steered by external agendas and top-down/outside-in power relations.

  • To strengthen independent local philanthropy, so it can promote support strategies (diverse grantmaking practices) by progressively donating resources to multiple actors and initiatives of Brazilian civil society.

  • To have communities and political minorities claiming rights, contributing to the construction of a fortified civil society.

  • To ensure that the Brazilian and international philanthropic actors are mobilized and committed to the community philanthropy and social justice agendas.

  • To strengthen the community philanthropy and socio-environmental justice agendas in terms of the local, regional and international philanthropy ecosystems, reinforcing the Network’s position as a key player in the debate.

The Advocacy Program is structured according to two key strategies: ENGAGING IN ADVOCACY EFFORTS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MEMBERS, which involves the strategic support and capacity building program, and INFLUENCING THE ECOSYSTEM.
